Elizabeth merkuryevna BEM (German: Elisabeth Boehm or Böhm) (nee Endaurova, 1843-1914) — Russian artist and Illustrator, painter, silhouette.
Descended from an ancient race. Her ancestors, the Tartars, bore the name of Indigir meaning — "Indian rooster." Diploma given to family by Ivan III, the name was changed to Endaurova.
Elizabeth merkuryevna was born on 12 (24) February 1843 in Saint-Petersburg and spent his childhood on the family estate in the village Androvich Shiptsova (Sepawa) Poshekhonsky district of Yaroslavl province. The family was large: Elizabeth had three brothers and two sisters. From 1857 to 1864 he studied at the Drawing school of the Society for the encouragement of artists in St. Petersburg, graduating with a silver medal. Living in Yaroslavl estate, illustrated the works of Nekrasov, scenes of peasant life, at the same time carried away by lithography and litografiruya own drawings.. In 1867, she married Ludwig Frantsevich Boehm (1825-1904), despite the 18 years of the age difference, the marriage was happy. In 1868 the couple was born one daughter, also Elizabeth, married autograph.
In 1875, she creates an album of postcards "Silhouettes", and in 1877 — the album "Silhouettes of children". Both albums printed Cartographic establishment of A. Ilyin, who was her uncle. In 1880 she creates album "Cake", in 1882 — "village of memories". The artist has worked with the publishing house "Mediator", which invited her to L. N. Tolstoy, in absentia familiar with her work, but also with the publisher of I. D. by Sitenum, who was a frequent customer of drawings by E. M. Boehm. In the early 1890s he worked on illustrations for the story N. S. Leskov "Insulted Natata". In 1907 two albums of postcards from "everything" and "boy friend, even an earring of abalone" issued by S. I. lapinin in Paris.
She painted greeting cards and illustrated children's magazines, "Toy" (1882-1886) and Malyutka (1886-1887), illustrated Russian folk tale "Repka" (1882). Created children's albums "Proverbs silhouettes" (1884), "Sayings and stories in silhouettes" (1885), "ABC". Illustrated fables by I. A. Krylov and "notes of a hunter" by Turgenev.
By the end of the 1880s, E. M. Boehm began to lose vision. Work in the area of the silhouette was worse, and in 1896, the artist finally stopped working in this technique.
In the 1890s, a new period of creativity. Since that time, not throwing classes in watercolor, she began to work in the new industries — creating sketches for the production of glassware. Glassware made from the designs of E. M. Boehm, brought her success almost immediately after their creation at the world exhibition in Chicago in 1893, and then on all-Russia exhibition in Nizhni Novgorod 1896 1899.. was busy preparing for the world exhibition in Paris 1900, where it was supposed to send, and glass products according to the drawings of E. M. Boehm. Russian Department of the exhibition was produced in Western Europe, the furor. In one of the rooms of the pavilion of Handicrafts and crafts of Russia was represented by glass, E. M. böhm "in the Russian style". Salt shaker by the sketch artist was presented to the President of France, what was written in the Newspapers.
In the early 1900s, the artist discovers a new kind of printmaking — original postcards, which were published under her name in large, for its time, copies and reprinted several times[8]. In the 1910s he collaborated with the publisher M. O. wolf in the series "My first book...".
In the early XX century works of the artist have found their recognition abroad. Her silhouettes were reprinted in Berlin, Paris, London, Vienna and America. For his work, the artist has received several International awards. Work Elizabeth Mercurine Bohm (1868) participated in International exhibitions in Paris (1900), Munich (1902), Milan (1906) and all received medals. In Milan, the artist received a gold medal.
In 1904 the artist lost her husband. Last years a lot of sick, worked less.
In 1913-1914 in Paris Ilya Sergeyevich by lapidim was published in the "Alphabet" of böhm in the form of large sheets with a large (7-10) number of drawings and concepts for each letter, over which she worked the last years of his life. "ABC" was released on "French coated paper in luxurious calico binding with two metal under the old silver clasps and buckles". Circulation — 1 000 copies, 5 editions, 6 illustrations in each. 100 luxury numbered albums came out autographed by the artist herself.
Elizabeth merkuryevna died 25 July (7 August) 1914, a week before the start of the First world war and was buried beside her husband in the Novodevichy cemetery in St. Petersburg.
