Mikhailovich Sedov

Victor Sedov is a Moscow-based artist who has been developing his own line of easel-based contemporary art for more than a quarter of a century. He was born in the village of Stary Kistruss, Ryazan region. Professional education he received in MohU Memory of 1905 of Mikhail Dobroserdov - the teacher of the famous artists P.Ossovsky, V.Sidorov, Gelia Korzhev and V.Stozharov. But decisive for him was the long experience of communicating with Evgeny Strulev, one of the leaders of the generation of "seventies". Rediscovering the line of "rustic primitive" in the Russian art, Strulev helped Sedov to turn to his own roots, to the archaic aesthetics of the village, to the element of open color.

The best works of the turn of the 1980s and 1990s are marked by a subtle stylization of naive and lubok images, at the same time executed in an individual, unlike anyone else manner. Subsequently, Sedov switched to non-figurative painting, in which territory he proved himself to be a master of color and its complex nuances. the 2000s are marked by a return to figurative figurativeness on a new turn. Sedov develops his own concept of the iconic landscape, which equally incorporates his experience with primitive and abstraction. By the title of one of his works, Sedov refers to it as a "simple landscape," but this is precisely the case where simplicity is the result of a long effort to sift out the superfluous and emphasize the main thing in the motif. In essence, Sedov's work is a search for new possibilities for the traditional Russian genre of painting.
