Sergey Sorokin's exhibition "Fisherman's Dream"

From January 27 to February 2, ArtMaison Gallery will present Sergey Sorokin's project "Fisherman's Dream"
Opening on January 27th at 7:00pm!

The exhibition will combine two projects. "My Aquarium", which was exhibited in 2004 in the exhibition hall of the MHPA named after Count Stroganov and "My Aquarium - 2".
Conceptually, the idea of the exhibition is close to the ironic "science art" or "scientific art" and combines paleontology, ichthyology and design. The author presents "portraits" of fish that could exist, exist as a scientist's dream of discovering species unknown to science, an artist-constructor, inventing new forms of fish models, as a product of selection - breeding new species of fish from existing ones or art-engineering - i.e. creation of new non-existent species by imagination. The artist tries himself in the role of demiurge and creator of myths, not only "embodying" fantastic fish on canvas, but also describing their habitat, habits, diet and ways of reproduction, taking as a basis Sabaneyev's book "Fishes of Russia", ironically interpreting the texts and giving them a pseudo-scientific look.

Each individual has its own unique way of locomotion - in water, in the air and on land, using stilts and legs, fins and wings. the "motor" drives a complex system of filaments-stretchings, looped to all parts of the body. Each fish has a personal legend - how it is caught and where it lives, how it hunts and hides from enemies, nutrition and behavior, as well as how people use this knowledge. All fish have a "family tree" - from whom they originated, what changes the species has undergone, anatomical features, the wonders of mimicry and who are close relatives in the group.

These projects are a game of creativity by a scientist-designer that not only studies, describes and engages in "tuning" existing species, but also invents and constructs new ones...
