Crosses of Rogozhskaya Sloboda. Stone carving of the 16th century. Restoration results

Mostra 14 novembre − 15 dicembre
White stone crosses were a rare type of tombstones in Moscow Rus. They serve as an important example of Old Russian material and artistic religious culture.

The exhibition will show an integrated approach to scientific restoration work and its results on the example of four stone crosses from the museum's collection that underwent restoration in 2021-2024. The presented exhibits come from the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhskaya Sloboda. They reflect the variety of forms and decorations that distinguish Moscow monuments of this type. Two items have survived to the present day in the form of fragments, reunited and for the first time shown to specialists and a wide range of visitors in a complete form. One of the crosses preserved the name of the deceased - Mavra Borisovna Okulova.

The exhibition will be accompanied by photographs and descriptions of the restoration processes, as well as a statement of research findings.

The curator of the exhibition is S.A. Garkusha, Senior Researcher of the Research and Foundation Department.
