Description of the artwork «The Resurrection Of Christ»

Piero della Francesca, a famous artist of the Early Renaissance, influenced the work of many artists, including Giovanni Santi and Raphael, and his fresco "The Resurrection Of Christ"considered one of the greatest paintings of biblical themes.

Artists of the past often turned to the theme of resurrection: the interest is linked not only with the raging popularity of religious works, but with the lack of a precise description of the incident. Painters are provided with almost complete freedom of action and the possibility of their own interpretation of the most significant for every believer event.

Fresco of Piero della Francesca "the Resurrection of Christ" created in the XV century, and more precisely in 1460 as the decoration of the building of the town hall in Borgo Sansepolcro. This city is a small homeland of the artist, here he always returned from his many travels. This picture of the master, as well as all other written works, distinguished by delicate and soft flavor, perfectly constructed perspective and the accuracy of the figure.

In the center of the triangular composition is the figure of Christ, presented in the form of an athlete, which is quite unusual for such a story. He gets out of the tomb with a banner in hand, which depicts the cross is enough characteristic detail, which is present on most of the paintings of religious subjects, symbolizing the crucifixion.

In the lower part of the frescoes of Piero della Francesca "the Resurrection of Christ" you can see the guards of four soldiers, who, according to the gospel of Matthew, were supposed to be guarding the tomb. A dream or a delusion, which found them once fell from the heavens an angel did not allow the soldiers to see one of the greatest miracles: the Resurrection of Christ. Ambiguous interpretation of Christian texts explains that in the paintings of many artists you can see a different image of the guards: changing the number, condition and location outside the tomb.

The miraculous salvation of the paintings of Piero della Francesca "the Resurrection of Christ"

About their impressions received from the contemplation of the works of the painter, wrote many: the most famous essay Huxley called "the Best picture". In this famous English novelist with a sincere admiration gives a description of the frescoes of Piero della Francesca "the Resurrection of Christ", not knowing that in the future his travel notes on the journey in this part of Italy will help to save not only the work itself, but also of Sansepolcro.

During the Second World war, British troops were planning to expose the city to artillery fire. However, luckily for the residents, captain E. Clarke, being fairly educated and well-read man, learned the name of this village, I have seen them in the work of Huxley. The bombardment was discontinued, and a subsequent offensive has ended without bloodshed, as the German troops had left Sansepolcro. A priceless painting was saved, and now the fresco, though in need of another restoration is in the Pinacoteca Comunale, the art gallery of the Museum of Sansepolcro.
