Lebedev Kurds began illustrating books for children and youth Department of the State literature publishing house and most clearly manifested itself precisely in this field. The flowering of talent Cordova came in the 1930s He created a truly classic illustrations to books about animals - "what's what" V. Bianchi, "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" and "Tales" by R. Kipling and, finally, to the "Forest newspaper" V. Bianchi, reprinted these illustrations more than twenty times. The Kurds were no animals in the narrow sense of the word; the subject of his art was always the life of nature, which he was able to portray, combining a wide spatial range with the curious intensity of attention to detail. But it was even wider, and he proved it no less skillfully illustrated such books as "Budyonny Cavalry" A. I. Vvedensky, "the Life Imteurgin Sr." T. Toloka and "Ivanhoe" by W. Scott. During the war of the Kurds remained in the besieged Leningrad, made two trips on the Volkhov front and the partisans, which gave him material for a series of lithographs "roads of war" (1942-44). After the war, he has failed to reach the previous high level or in numerous easel series (lithography, watercolor), nor in the illustrations of what the fault was domination in the art of rigid dogmatic rules. In the last years of his life he was able to succeed in a new variant of illustrations for the Finnish epic "Kalevala" and "Tales" by R. Kipling.
