In 1894-1901, he studied at St Petersburg Academy under I. Repin. One of the organizers and the teacher (1902-1913) the Kharkov art College. In 1921-1924 he worked in an art College, and in the years 1925-1934 - the art Institute of Kharkiv. In 1934, he lived and worked in Leningrad.
