Russian painter of the classical school, battle painter, studied at the Academy of arts under F. A. Rubo. Collaborated with the magazines "World of art", "Apollo", "Lukomorye", "Satyricon". Illustrated "War and peace" by L. N. Tolstoy. Worked mainly in graphic techniques, design I made plays, executed orders from the Imperial porcelain factory.

After 1917 he lived in the Caucasus in 1922 headed the Department of graphic art at the Tbilisi Academy of arts, 1941 - Professor.
