Studied at the VKhUTEMAS in A. Osmerkin, R. Falk, and D. Shterenberg. After graduation in 1930 he joined the Union OST, 1932 in Union Izobrigada (later was its Chairman), then in the brigade of artists TIGI (Tyagunov, Ivanovo, Gurevich).
In 1933-1934, he took part in expeditions on the icebreakers "Krasin", "Lenin". The exhibition was in 1934 in Moscow of his "Arctic" work received universal recognition.

Since 1947, he was invariably elected a Board member of the MOOSKH. In 1949, the Executive Secretary of the Board of the MOOSKH. Was repeatedly elected a delegate to the Republican and all-Union congresses of the Union of artists, member of the Board of the Art Fund of the USSR. Since 1966, he was the chief artist of the Noginsk workshop Mooblipood.
Works of the artist are in the Tretyakov gallery, the Museum of the Arctic, museums Murmansk, Nukus, etc. Died in Moscow.
