Biography and information

Born in the Chita region. Russian sculptor, graphic artist and jeweler, member of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation. He graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Art Institute. In 2003, Dasha was awarded the Silver Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts for works presented at solo exhibitions in Moscow.

A peculiar refraction of the cultural traditions of Europe and the East is one of the main attractive features of the artist's works. Dasha’s works embody the traditional images of the Central Asian steppe civilization: warriors and beauties, llamas and shamans, totem animals and mythological creatures. The figurative system, the plots of his works, dating back to Eastern beliefs, tales, legends, are embodied with the measure of generalization and stylization, which, based on ancient traditions, is largely determined by the features of the development of modern European plastic. The unity of West and East in his works is extremely organic.

Dashi Namdakov enthusiastically develops an animalistic theme in sculpture, graphics, and especially sophisticatedly, fantastically in jewelry plastic (which he began working on since 2004). Dasha’s jewelry appears as precious history artifacts. Birds of prey and animals, insects and anthropomorphic masks participate in the creation of the modern world of art.

The artist’s works are in the collections of the State Hermitage, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Museum of Oriental Art, the Russian Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Russian Art, the Tibet House in New York, the Guangzhou Museum of Art in China, etc.
