Born at the station Red unit of the Mordovian SSR.
He graduated from the art College of Penza sculpture Department (1954), the Moscow art Institute. V. I. Surikov, faculty of sculpture (workshop of the artist M. G. Manizer) (1960).
In 1960, arrived in Barnaul and went to work in the Altai branch of art Fund of RSFSR.
He worked in easel and monumental sculpture.
In cities and district centers of the region, they created monuments to those killed during the great Patriotic war soldiers (Shipunovo, Altai, Tyumentsevo, Kytmanovo, Rubtsovsk). In the village of Bayevo, the landing site of the first female astronaut, created a monument to Valentina Tereshkova. In the regional Philharmonic hall J. S. Akimov was made high relief portraits of great composers: L. Beethoven, M. Glinka, F. Liszt, L. Mozart, M. Mussorgsky, P. Tchaikovsky, D. Shostakovich and F. Chopin.
The works are made in different materials: wood, plaster, synthetic material, concrete.
In the 80-ies the artist worked with metal. Chasing the portraits of Karl Marx (1984), Ernest Hemingway (1986), Beethoven (1986), F. Liszt (1987), Alexander Pushkin (1987).
Akimov Yu. s. - the participant of the great Patriotic war, served as a tanker, reached East Prussia, was wounded, awarded the order of Glory I degree, order of the Patriotic war II degree, medals of the Participant of regional exhibitions since 1960 member of the Union of artists of Russia since 1996.
Lived and worked in Barnaul.
He died in 2003.
