Stanchak

Julian Stanczak (Julian Stanczak, November 5, 1928, Borovnica, Poland – March 25, 2017, seven hills, Ohio, USA) – American artist of Polish origin, one of the outstanding representatives of op art. At the age of 11 years Stanczak with his family was taken to a labor camp in Siberia, where hard work, hunger and physical violence he refused the right hand. Julian had to learn to do everything left, including paint. In 1941 the family of Stanczak released, and they went in a long journey that ended in a camp for Polish refugees in Uganda. In 1948 they moved to England, where Julian began to study book illustration. Two years later, Stanczak emigrated to the U.S. and enrolled at Yale University. His first solo exhibition was held in 1964, it was called "Julian Stanczak: Optical paintings". Exactly the style of op art got its name. Until the end of his life the artist remained faithful to this style, gradually perfecting the technique and complicating work. Artistic career Stanczak successfully combined with teaching work and even got the title of "Outstanding American educator".
