The State Tretyakov Gallery in the exhibition halls of the New Tretyakov Gallery is holding a solo exhibition.
Chaim Sokol "In a sense, I become them, and they are me".
The exhibition presents a new series of large-scale works on fabric and gouache graphics.
In his works, Haim Sokol explores the issues of personal and collective memory and the mechanisms of its transmission. In the new project, he addresses the more specific topic of traumatic memory, primarily connected, but not exclusively, with the events of World War II and the Holocaust. The artist asks questions: can the memory of the victim be universal? How to remember what you want to forget? What do we do with this memory? The author addresses the themes of alienation, isolation and broken bonds in the modern world. Working with archival materials and personal documents, he reveals episodes of the history of the XX century through the prism of private destinies.
In 2017, 2018, Haim Sokol entered the Russian art investment rating 49ART, representing outstanding contemporary artists under the age of 50 years.
