Gallery "Heritage" with the support of the Institute of Italian Culture in Moscow holds an exhibition “Playing in novechento. Non-Soviet Soviet Art of the 1920s – 1930s.

In total, the exhibition more than 70 works. In the gallery halls, paintings by key Italian masters of the artistic movement of the novecento - Pietro Marussiga, Achille Funi, Felice Casorati, Mario Tozzi, Cesare Monti - are presented for the first time in comparison with the works of painting, graphic, sculpture, porcelain, design by Soviet artists of the same interwar era - Kuzma Petrov -Vodkin, Vladimir Favorsky, Tatiana Cooperwasser, Vladimir Kovalsky, Nadezhda Lermontova, Alexey Zernov, Maria Lomakina, Vladimir Lebedev, Dmitry Krapivnoy and others.

The exhibition also presents works by artists of Russian diaspora, who served as a link between Soviet Russia and Europe, in particular the works of Boris Grigoriev and Leopold Syurvazh. A separate section of the exhibition will make up the Soviet and Italian art publications of this period related to the aesthetics of the novecento.

The name "novechento" literally means "twentieth century", reflecting the desire to be as modern as possible for the artists included in this grouping. The objective of the exhibition is a bold experiment: to show a comparison of the art of the flow of the novecento, supporting Mussolini, and the Soviet pre-war art, which was thought in similar aesthetic categories of modernism - the combination of modernism with European, or rather Mediterranean, classics. There are amazing parallels between the works of the Italian novecento and the works of Soviet artists, in which the epoch manifested itself beyond and beyond national borders.
