The art gallery of the Yeltsin Center invites to an exhibition of works from the collection of the Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts
"Blackout".
The project will present one hundred and fifty works of contemporary artists working in a very rare and refined technique of engraving - mezzotint, which is also commonly called the “black manner”. For the Blackout exhibition, the best works of 88 artists from 30 countries were selected.
The name of the exhibition and the presented technique indicate the presence in engravings of a velvet-black background, comparable in depth to coal and resin shades, and also characterize an unconventional process of creating an image - from dark to light; the artist seems to be highlighting objects from pristine darkness. Such a method of shaping is so different from the usual perception of graphics that mezzotint acquires the qualities of a "magic" process.
