Portraits Cezanne

The national portrait gallery in London took over from Paris and placed in its halls a unique retrospective, called in press "a definite blockbuster". The exhibition "Portraits of Cezanne" first time ever gathered in one show, over 50 paintings by French impressionist — one quarter of what he wrote in this genre.

Paul Cezanne created about 200 portraits (including 26 native and 29 — his wife Hydrangeas), but so far they have received very little attention. Now the audience can simultaneously see the paintings collected from museums in France, USA, Denmark, Brazil, Japan and Russia.

Retrospective studies of scenic and thematic features of Cezanne's portraits, including several versions of the same subject. The exhibition is arranged chronologically, so that visitors have tracked changes in style and methods of the artist, his understanding of similarity and identity. Works range from the wonderful portraits of Dominica, uncle of cézanne Dating from the 1860-ies, and to the last images of Valle, who helped the artist in his garden and in the Studio shortly before the death of the painter in 1906.

After London the exhibition will take another world capital — Washington.
