The State Russian Museum is holding an exhibition in the Mikhailovsky Castle
"Italian Futurism from the Mattioli Collection. Russian Cubo-Futurism from the Russian Museum and Private Collections".
For the first time in Russia masterpieces of the Italian futurism from the Mattioli collection (Milan) will be shown: 26 unique works by D. Balla, U. Boccioni, C. Carr, L. Russolo, D. Severini, M. Sirooni and many other artists, whose names have become iconic for the historical and cultural context, in which the Italian futurism was born. Next to them in the exposition space will be paintings and drawings from the collection of the Russian Museum and private collections in Moscow. The authors of these works are D. Burliuk, N. Goncharova, A. Lentulov, K. Malevich, L. Popova, I. Puni, O. Rozanova, N. Udaltsova, A. Exter and other famous representatives of the Russian avant-garde.
Combining the works of Italian and Russian futurists in the exhibition allows us to feel the originality of each of the two national versions of this large-scale creative movement. The fundamental works of Italian futurism are shown in dialogue with the same iconic works of Russian masters. This allows viewers to see their similarities and differences, to better understand and feel the atmosphere of the era of avant-garde experiments that embraced all of Europe.
