Glasstress. A window to the future

Exhibition 11 September − 31 October 2021
The State Hermitage Museum in cooperation with the Studio Berengo, Venice, holds an exhibition "Glasstress. A Window to the Future".

The exhibition includes more than fifty works by contemporary artists who created their works in glass on the island of Murano, Venice. Among the participants of the exhibition are such famous masters as Ai Weiwei, Renata Bertlman, Kun Vanmechelen, Michael Ju, Joseph Koshut, Peta Coyne, Mat Collishaw, Lor Pruvo and others. Works by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Jaume Plensa, Jan Fabre, Hans Op de Beck are of particular interest - the works of these authors were shown at exhibitions at the State Hermitage with great success.

This is one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art, occupying more than ten halls, including the monumental spaces of the Great Enfilade and White Hall, as well as the spaces of the Supra Enfilade and the Red Halls of the General Staff Building. The spaces in the General Staff Building exhibit miniature sculptures, large-scale installations, multi-meter chandeliers and even video art. These works reflect the artists' bright, complex ideas and show how glass can be "pushed out of its comfort zone" and combined with other materials.
