The Art Gallery of New South Wales presents a major exhibition of works
Brett Whiteley (1939-1992).
The exhibit features works of art created by Whiteley, who traveled extensively during his time in Australia from the mid-1950s to the early 1990s. The subjects of these paintings, drawings, prints, collages and sculptures range from Sydney's famous harbor and beaches to the culturally significant rock formations of Kata Tuta in the Northern Territory.
Brett Whiteley is an Australian artist who became the youngest living artist whose work has been purchased by the Tate Gallery, a record no other artist has ever surpassed. In 1999, Whiteley's The Jacaranda Tree was the most expensive painting by an Australian artist at the time.
