Stepanovich Dobrovolsky

Academician of historical painting. Was raised from 1798 to 1809, in the Imperial Academy of Arts, where his closest mentor was Professor G. Ugryumov . At the end of the academic year with the diploma of the 1st degree, entered the service in Moscow's Armory; for it was the drawings of the placement of weapons and other attractions; make drawings on the occasions of great festivals, for example, for the coronation of Emperor Alexander I ; he painted portraits, image, watercolors; but even as the artist has not produced in his lifetime, nothing remarkable. However, he has acquired the right to memory in posterity as one of the main participants in the institution (1830) Moscow art class, which turned soon (1833) in the school of painting, sculpture and architecture, as one of the first teachers in this institution for a long time (1842 and 1851) who performed the post of its Director by an economic part. The merit of the founding in Moscow a hotbed of art education parts together with Dobrovolsky, his brother, and fellow education at the Academy of Arts, Alexei (1788 - 1844), simultaneously with it, in 1836, awarded the title of academician of historical painting, for his work on the device the mentioned school and teaching in it.
