Born in Tver province. Painter, graphic artist. In 1920 – 1921 he studied at the Vitebsk people's art school, the Vitebsk artistic-practical Institute. Member Of UNOVIS. In 1922, together with other students of Malevich moved to Petrograd and entered the Academy of fine arts. In 1923 he moved to Moscow and enrolled in the sculpture Department VKhUTEMAS.
