In 1845 defined by the workman in a Glass factory; in 1849 he entered the Mosaic office. In 1856 defined the artist mosaic work; in 1857, necklaceny artist; in 1861, Jr., artist-mosaic artist and in the same year as senior artist – mosaic artist; in 1865, superintendent of smal Mosaic institution and then the title of class artist of 3 stepani; in 1866 – the title of class artist of 2 degrees; in 1867, the title of class artist of 1 degree; in 1869 – the academician of the puzzle. From 1883 to 1890 served as Head of the Mosaic Department.

He received his artistic education in the Imperial Academy of arts, after which in 1856 he was enrolled in the mosaic Department.

Worked on the execution of artistic mosaics for St. Isaac's Cathedral, as well as for private customers. Since 1883 he became head of the mosaic Department, Academy of arts, was awarded the title of class artist (1857), the younger artist-mosaic artist (1861), the class artist of the 3rd degree in historical and portrait painting (1865), academician (1872) and of honorary independent member (1876).

For the execution of the image of St. Catherine was awarded an honorary diploma and a gold medal at the Moscow Polytechnic exhibition. In addition to this image, played for St. Isaac's Cathedral mosaic icon of "SV. Mary Magdalene", the figures of Christ and the warrior in "the Flagellation", the head of the Evangelist Mark, "STS. Vladimir and Olga" (original by A. E. Beideman).

Frolov led the execution and installation of the mosaic ornaments for the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. He played also two images of fine-grained glazes Holy saints of mount Athos for the iconostasis of the Church of the Resurrection.

Of private orders interested in his work for the Queen of the Netherlands Anna Pavlovna – head and the hand of the angel at the sepulchre, chapel in Wiesbaden is the head of the virgin and the Infant Christ, S. G. Stroganoff – "the Annunciation" (from the original Rube).

The performance of Frolov differed not only high artistic value, but also attention to detail.

In 1891 Alexander Nikitich became the head of the first Russian private mosaic workshop, and thanks to its experience and knowledge of mosaic cases successfully compete with foreign masters. With his direct participation and leadership was filled with serious and responsible work, including the mosaic work of the Savior on spilled blood.
