Born on 25 APR 1933 in Teenscom the nasleg kobyayskiy ulus. He graduated in 1955 Yakut art College, in 1961 - the faculty of history, YSU, 1969 – sculpture faculty of the Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture named after I. E. Repin in Leningrad (class M. A. Kerzina). From 1955 to 1963 and in 1969-1973 he worked as a sculptor in Yakut art-industrial workshops of Art Fund of the USSR. Since 1969 teaches at Yakutsk art school. In 2003, for a series of sculptures in memory of P. A. Oyunsky P. A. Zakharova was awarded the State prize of Sakha(Yakutia) named after P. A. Oyunsky.
Peter Zakharov belongs to the older generation Yakut sculptors whose works have played an important role in the development of fine arts of Yakutia. In the genre of portrait sculpture he brought to life the images of historical figures and contemporaries – teachers, writers, scientists, intellectuals. For many years the sculptor enthusiastically worked on the images of Platon Oyunsky, Alexei Kulakovsky, Maxim Ammosov, Anempodist Sofronov. Important place in the work is a work on the theme of war - "portrait of a veteran of the great Patriotic war, Dmitry Efimov," "Portrait of a veteran of the great Patriotic war, sapper S. D. Flegontova". The sculptor created the monument to I. Y. Strode in Sasil-Sisi, four-meter monument to N. G. Chernyshevsky in the city of Geneva (1978), a bust of M. K. Ammosov granite (1989) established in Namtsy, the monument to young Conovca killed in an ambush near the village of Maya (1970), A. E. Kulakovsky (2002) in the Tattinsky ulus, the monument to P. A. Oyunskogo (2003) in Yakutsk. From 1957 his work was exhibited annually at the all-Union, all-Russian, Republican, traveling art exhibitions, and also appeared abroad: Japan and Mongolia. Monuments, built according to designs by the sculptor, set in the city of Yakutsk, on the territory of the Republic, in Moscow. Personal exhibitions of the sculptor took place in Yakutsk (1983,1993,2003.). Works are in National art Museum of Sakha(Yakutia), the State Tretyakov gallery and the Directorate of exhibitions of the Union of artists of Russia in Moscow.
