Simonetta Vespucci is an incredibly popular court lady, from Florence, during the reign of Lorenzo de' Medici. All the artists of the time painted pictures of her, all the poets wrote poems in her honor, knights fought in tournaments under the banners of her colors, and the very brother of the ruler of Florence was in love with her. And perhaps the most important legacy she left us is the incredibly vivid and memorable images in Sandro Botticelli's paintings, one of which I decided to quote.
