Ivan
Dmitrievich Shadr (Ivanov)

Russia • 1887−1941

Was born in Ryazan (now the Kurgan region) on 30 January (11 February) 1887 in the family of a carpenter. The name of his native city formed the basis of the alias. In his youth he worked as a clerk at merchants. Studied at the Ekaterinburg art-industrial school (1901-1906) T. E. Zalkalna. Arriving on foot to St. Petersburg, in 1907-1909 at the same time studied at the Higher courses the Theatre school, Musical-dramatic school (Shadr had a good voice) and the Drawing school of Society for encouragement of arts (1907-1908)..To.Roerich. He continued his studies in the academies of Paris and Rome (1910-1912). Returning home, he lived in Moscow (1919-1921 – in Omsk).

Among his early works, stands out the project of a Monument to world suffering (1916), who embodied the characteristic features of the memorial plastics of modernity (the mourning figures that seem to "go" in pervosti stone). Remarkable for its bright, dynamic remarkable this list, his "money men" (pieces of a red army soldier, worker, peasant, of the sower, designed to reproduce on the notes; gypsum, 1922, Russian Museum; the bronze is in the Tretyakov gallery). The theme of "man and prevostii" continued large-scale high relief the Struggle with the land (1922; bronze casting – ibid.). A powerful expression of the image of the leader, as though to subdue the overbearing nature of oratorical gesture, stood out executed the monument to Vladimir Lenin at the Zemo-Avalski HPP in Georgia (1927; demolished in 1991). However, easel and figures Shadr, for example the famous figure fighting worker (cobblestone – the weapon of the proletariat, 1927, known in several castings), was originally the viewer in a kind of heroic monuments.

Inherent in the official Soviet sculpture "modern academic" received Shadr particularly temperamental and romantic hue. This is, in particular, the image of Gorky-Petrel (bronze, 1939, Tret gallery). More classication figure Gorky monument to the writer (at the Belarus station in Moscow), executed according to the sketch Shadr, V. I. Mukhina et al (1939-1951). Plastically-significant and poetic, the best of the gravestones of his work (N. With.Alliluyeva, 1933; E. N. Nemirovich-Danchenko, 1939; both marble and granite, the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow). Shadr died in Moscow.
