Painter. Member of the Union of artists of the USSR. People's artist of the RSFSR, laureate of the State prize of the Karelian ASSR.
Born September 1, 1915, in Petrograd, in the family of a shoemaker. Civil war family spent in Yaroslavl province. Yuntunen father was drafted into the Red Army, but directly in the fighting did not participate. After demobilization, the family decided to move to the land of their ancestors in Finland. Settled in Tampere. Father got a job in a Shoe factory. Rip studied at the folk school, then in the professional: he studied metalwork, foundry, lathe skills. In the early thirties, when Finland was gripped by unemployment, Antonini decided to return to the Soviet Union. Finland refused to release them, and then they crossed the border illegally in the Gulf of Finland in the boat of a smuggler. Crossed the border Finns sent to the Urals. There the family split up, and in 1934 Rip with his mother came to Petrozavodsk. This city became native for him. More than a year Rip worked on Onega the factory. But then trouble with the authorities due to low earnings and left the factory.
Went to technical school on Finnish language and began to paint. Simultaneously with the study the study SULO Juntunen also studied at the art Studio of the House of folk art, founded in 1936. The first teacher Yuntunen was Veniamin Nikolaevich Popov, a student of I. Repin. The war began. In the army Juntunen did not get because of "questionable" origin, he was evacuated to Perm, where he worked as a lumberjack, a fireman on the steamers of the Kama, a teacher at the school (before the war he managed to graduate from short-term teacher-training courses). In the spring of 1945 SULO Juntunen returned to Petrozavodsk, where he was asked to continue to work as a teacher. But he decided to make every effort to master the profession of an artist. Feeling their lack of preparedness, he read a lot, experimented, worked. In 1946 Juntunen became a member of the Union of artists. A turning point in the fate Yuntunen was part of the all-Union exhibition of 1951. Since 1951, SULO Juntunen gave himself completely to art. The first years was slow, but gradually began to receive orders, his paintings were in demand. SULO Yuntunen very modern theme: urban industrial landscapes, today's village. But many of his paintings are of unspoilt nature - beaches, trees, etc., although more loved themed landscapes.
In search of impressions Juntunen visited all parts of Soviet Karelia. However, only once was in Kalevala and Pudozhsky districts, but the Straw near Petrozavodsk, inspired him to dozens of paintings. Creative trip, organized by the Union of artists, allowed Antonino to visit Tuva (1970), the far East (1971), Yugoslavia (1972), on the Kola Peninsula (1973), in Bashkortostan and West Siberia (1976). SULO Juntunen as an artist initially did not have sufficient professional education, and he knew it. However, hard work and a variety of experimentation let him master the technique and find your own handwriting. The most important teacher for SULO Yuntunen was, as already noted, VN.Popov. Of Finnish artists, the most profound impression he was Akseli Gallen-Kallela, especially his work on "Kalevala". A great influence on Yuntunen had its originality also Hugo Simberg, Juho Rissanen.
SULO Juntunen died 19 November 1980 after a long illness. After his death the major part of his legacy was bought by the State Tretyakov gallery. The artist's works are also in Russian Museum and many regional galleries.
Work SULO Yuntunen has sold at leading Russian and international auctions.
