Bizarre and tragic was the fate of Roman Matveevich Semashkevich. His father was a gardener, and a boy his first paint was made from the juice of flowers. Then he studied in Vilna and became one of the organizers of the Communist youth Union of Western Belarus and in 1924 moved to the Soviet Belarus. He studied at the Vitebsk art school at the sculpture Department, then at the Moscow artistic-technical Institute studied painting. A lot of work, dedication, lived for art. Was part of the art group "13", enjoyed success among collectors and museums. Even during his studies several of his works were purchased by the Leningrad Russian Museum and Moscow's Tretyakov gallery. In 1937, Semashkevich was arrested and killed, and most of his works were confiscated during the arrest, has disappeared.
