Martirosovich Tatevosyan

[12(24).9.1870, Ejmiatsin, Echmiadzin now, — 22.1.1936, Tbilisi], a Soviet painter, honored artist of Armenian SSR (1935). He studied at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture, from which he graduated in 1894. On the formation So as an artist was strongly influenced by his teachers and friends V. D. Polenov and E. D. Polenova; have experienced some influence of impressionism. Participated in exhibitions of "Union of Russian artists" and "World of art". Worked in the field of landscape, genre and portrait; he also created works fabulously allegorical content ("One of my dreams", 1905, Art gallery. Armenia, Yerevan). In the 1910s is moving towards a more realistic manner, paying particular attention to the development of black and white and color effects ("Shepherd with flock", see Fig.; numerous sketchy landscapes of Armenia, Georgia, the Crimea, the Mediterranean). In 1920-30-ies intensified the artist's interest in portrait ("Komitas", 1935, ibid.).
