Semenovich Shcherbakov

The student of I. E. Repin and F. A. Rubo, graduated from the Higher art school at the Imperial Academy of arts in 1909, while Studying in the workshop of the technique and technology of painting under the guidance of Professor D. I. Kiplik, he mastered already forgotten by the time the technique of fresco painting, studied the techniques of the old masters. Main activity of Valentin Semenovich was the execution of orders at the painting of churches under the guidance of architect A. V. Shchusev.

The first world war and then October revolution and the Civil war changed the life. In order not to die from hunger in the cold Petrograd, Valentin Semyonovich Scherbakov moved to their home in Kazan, where he is offered the position of chief artist in Opera and drama, and also the head of the Studio of monumental painting. Valentin Semyonovich Scherbakov works a lot in the Kazan theatre, wrote sketches of scenery and costumes for plays; a small part of them (about ten) survived to the present day. Work is characterized by grace and an unusually fine sense of color. Upon returning to Petrograd V. S. Shcherbakov goes to work at the Lomonosov porcelain factory artist, where together with S. V. Chekhonin painted amazing sets. Unfortunately, all of this was exported. The family remained only one Cup with the painting on the theme of Pushkin's tales "Of the dead Princess and seven knights".
