Tone

In 1909 he began to study at the Riga city school of the arts Baron G. Rosen, but because of health in 1910, a study prekraschaet. In 1911 he resumed his studies and studied at the Riga City school of arts until 1915 from J. Rozentals, V. Purvitis, J. R. Tillberg and in addition to painting, doing sculpture at the A. Volta, later K. Ronczewski.

In 1913, on the supply boat, the captain of which his brother, V., Tone, is traveling through countries of the Mediterranean sea, sees Sicily, the Northern shore of Africa, Marseille, SIC, Barcelona and Málaga.

In 1915 – 16, he to study at the art school of Penza.

In 1917, V., Tone was the brigade commander of the 2nd reserve regiment of the Latvian Riflemen in Riga, after demobilization in 1917 – 18 years he lived in Pskov, Petrograd and in 1918 he returned to Riga.

In 1919 – 20, the artist worked as a drawing teacher and art history in secondary schools of Riga, 1919 – 23 years – led by his Studio in Riga.

In 1922, using the benefit of the Fund of Culture, he goes to Paris.

In 1925 – 32 years V. the Tone, directs the class of portrait painting in the Latvian Academy of arts. Since 1932, led the art class, act in 1944 he was promoted to a professorship.

In 1929 he poedaet Italy.

In 1944 the artist emigrated to Germany and in 1949 moved to Britain, where he lives and works till the end of life.

V., Tone was a member of the Riga group of artists (until 1924), one of the founders, participated in its exhibitions. In 1924 25 he was a member of the society of artists “Sadarbs”. Also was an honorary member of the society of artists Mucosally.

In exhibitions the artist has participated since 1913.

His work is exhibited in exhibitions of Culture Foundation and Latvian art exhibitions in Latvia and abroad.

Personal exhibitions are organized in Riga (1921), Germany – Detmold and its vicinity (1946), Munster (1947), Libice (1948), London (1952), Stockholm and Gothenburg (1953).

Memorable exhibitions – in Riga (1959, 1992).

V. the Tone received the award of the Culture Foundation (1924, 1934), also the degree outstanding artist of the Latvian Academy of arts for his services to painting (1934), and became a knight of the order of Three Stars (1938).
