Impressionism: a view from Philadelphia

L'exposition 22 mai 2021 − 13 mars 2022
The Woodmere Art Museum is holding an exhibition "Impressionism: A View from Philadelphia.".

The exhibit offers visitors its "Philadelphia" perspective on American Impressionism through works from the museum's collection, including a number of recent acquisitions.

Taking over Paris in the 1870s, Impressionism became an international phenomenon, taking root in many cities and rural art colonies throughout Europe and America until the 1920s and beyond. In general, Impressionist artists rejected academic methods and worked in a "naturalistic" manner, painting directly from the objects in front of them, whether plein air in the countryside, in the modern city, or in the studio. The Impressionists' brushstrokes-often bright, unmixed colors-expressed the artist's temperament and unique point of view. Philadelphia became one of the important centers of Impressionist painting.
