Van Gogh. Self-portraits

L'exposition 3 février − 8 mai 2022
The Courtauld Institute of Art in London holds an exhibition "Van Gogh. Self-Portraits.".

Visitors will see a selection of self-portraits by Van Gogh. This is the first time that the most complete range of self-portraits of the master is presented in one exhibition.

The organizers of the exhibition have taken the iconic Van Gogh Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear, one of the most famous works in the Courtauld Collection, as their starting point, and combined more than half of the self-portraits Van Gogh created during his artistic life. Visitors will be able to trace the evolution of Van Gogh's self-representation, from his early "Self-Portrait in a Dark Feather Hat," created in 1886 during his formative years in Paris, to "Self-Portrait with Palette," painted in an asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in September 1889, one of his last self-portraits before his death in 1890. "The Myth of Van Gogh" is linked both to the author's extraordinary life and to his stunning paintings. This exhibition will explore both aspects.
