He studied at the Academy of fine arts Vienna (1865-1866) the landscape painter L. Haluska. Worked in Munich, where he became friends with V. Leiblum in 1870-1872 and landscape V. Trubprom. In 1868-1870 traveled to Italy; in 1872-1873 he lived in Rome, Venice; 1882-1894 in Paris. Also visited Belgium, Holland, lake Herrensee (1873), Olevano Italy (1875). The summer of 1878, 1880-1881 held in Austria (in mill, Svilosa, Consdorf) with his friend and biographer Carl Hagemeister. From 1894 he lived in Vienna. But since 1891 has little worked, did not participate in exhibitions.
