Painter, Nar. hood. USSR (1985). He studied at the Kaunas hood. school (1926-29) and then in Paris (1929-33). From 1940 he taught at the Vilnius art. the Institute, from 1947 Professor. Themed paintings "Work" (1929), "the Peasant uprising of 1863 in Lithuania" (1963), "On the roads of war" (1965-67), "Brides" (1981), landscapes "Lithuanian landscapes" (1937), "Evening" (1963), portraits of "the Artist L. Surgailis" (1961), "Ruth resting" (1962), etc.

[R. 16(29). 7.1904, šiauliai], a Soviet painter, people's artist of the Lithuanian SSR (1964). He studied at the Kaunas art school (1926-1929) and at the National Conservatory of arts and crafts in Paris (1929-33). 1940 teaches at the Art Institute of the Lithuanian SSR in Vilnius (1947 Professor). Author of thematic canvases ("Labour", 1929: "the Peasant uprising of 1863 in Lithuania", 1963, Art Museum of the Lithuanian SSR, Vilnius), portraits (Rybak K. Augutis, 1958, artist L. Surgailis, 1961, both at the Art Museum of the Lithuanian SSR), numerous landscapes, and drawings. In a typical painting G. sharp rhythms and intense color combinations are refracted dynamics of modern life, creative attitude to the world of the artist. State prize of the Lithuanian SSR (1965). Awarded the order "badge of Honor" and medals.
