Leonidovich Kalmykov

He worked in oil and watercolor. He was fond of picturesque modern innovations, but remained faithful to the school of Russian realistic landscape of the late NINETEENTH century. Kalmykov works are in the Tretyakov gallery, the Gallery of modern art in Rome.

Born in Novocherkassk. The son of the don Cossacks. He graduated from Novocherkassk military school. In 1884-1889 he studied at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture. In 1890-1904 worked in Moscow in the summer traveled to the South of Russia. Participated in exhibitions TPHV (1904-1907), MTX in Vienna, Munich, Rome. Traveled extensively in Italy and Switzerland, visited Japan, India, Africa To 1912 seriously interested in decorative ceramics and created in Moscow decorative and facing the workshop. In the spring of 1914 he moved to Pyatigorsk, where he opened a ceramic workshop "Temper" on the street Teplostroy. Were creating ceramic icons, ceramic decoration of facades of public and private buildings. They created artistic ceramics for facades Miliceiskii baths, used by all classes of the club houses of the architect Kuznetsov and Maciejowski and other houses and cottages of Pyatigorsk, the monument on the grave of K. K. kibardin design. In 1916 he returned to Moscow, where he taught at the Stroganov school. He was sent to India to gather art collections of the Museum school. In Russia did not come back. In 1924, he emigrated to Los Angeles, where he died in March 1925
