At the age of 13, he took private drawing lessons, Luis Wellinger (1819-1886). In 1847 his mother died and brother Rudolf, and the Anchor went to study in the gymnasium in Bern.25 Dec 1853 he wrote to his father about being an artist. Summer has obtained the consent of his father, and went to Paris.6 Dec 1864, Anker married Anna Ruefli (1835-1917), a friend of his sister. In September 1901 the Anchor happened stroke, and his right hand was paralyzed. Over the last ten years of his life, he tried to write with my left hand. At this time he created only two oil paintings, but more than 100 watercolors.
Albert Anker was born on 1 APR 1831 in the family of veterinarian Samuel Anker. At the age of 13 years he took private drawing lessons from Luis Wellinger (1819-1886). In 1847 the mother dies and the brother Rudolph, and the Anchor was forced to leave to study at the gymnasium in Bern. While living in Germany Anker met with the great German painting, which made him a very deep impression. 25 Dec 1853 he writes to his father about being an artist. Summer gets finally agreed, and immediately went to Paris where he rents a room on rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs, 53. Father before the end of his days helps him small money transfers.
6 Dec 1864, Anker married Anna Ruefli (1835-1917), a friend of his sister. Their children - daughter Louisa, Fanny, Sophie, Marie, and son Paul Moritz (the first two sons, Franz-Rudolf and Emil died at the age of one year) served the father models. For his portraits of children he was repeatedly awarded.
From 1865 to 1885, his paintings were exhibited at the Paris salon. In 1866, the Anchor becomes a member of the society of Swiss painters and sculptors. From 1870 to 1874 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern, where he takes an active part in the construction of the Berne Museum of fine arts. In 1878 albert Anker was knighted in the Legion of honour.

Albert Anker died on 16 July 1910.
