The State Russian Museum is holding an exhibition in the Mikhailovsky Palace "Portrait of Count Nikolai Sheremetev. New Discoveries".

The exposition is dedicated to the iconography of the young Count Nikolai Dmitrievich Sheremetev (1838-1843). Its centerpiece will be a recently attributed portrait by the museum staff of the Austrian painter Friedrich von Amerling (1803-1887).

Count Nikolai Dmitrievich Sheremetev, the son of Count Dmitry Nikolayevich Sheremetev (1803-1871), by his marriage to the court maid of honor Anna Sergeevna Sheremeteva (1810-1849), who died at the age of five, left a deep mark on the count's family, which kept him in awe and long memory. The exhibition will feature portraits of Nikolai Sheremetev made by different artists in different techniques - painting, miniature, sculpture, original and printed graphics from the collection of the State Russian Museum, the Ostankino Estate Museum (Moscow), the State Historical Museum and from the collection of T. A. Udras (Moscow).

The Austrian artist Amerling was one of the finest masters of children's portraiture of his time. The works he created in this genre are distinguished by their elegance of drawing and color variety. Painting works by Friedrich von Amerling are actually not in Russian museums. Thus, the portrait of the little Count Sheremetev found in the State Russian Museum is so far the master's only work in Russia.
