Feodorovskaya Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary

展览 8 九月 − 3 十月 2021
From September 8 to October 3, the Primorsky Art Gallery presents the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Blessed Virgin from the funds of the Primorsky State Art Gallery as part of the "Holy Countenances" exhibition series.
The calendar year of feasts of the Orthodox Church is a period in the life of a Christian, during which he is called by the Church to ascend a new step of the spiritual stairway leading up to God. The year ends on August 31 (September 13) and begins on September 14 according to the now accepted "new style," and that is why the first great holiday of the Church year is the Nativity of Our Most Holy Lady (September 8/21), and the last is the Assumption of Our Most Holy Lady (August 15/28) - the transition from temporal to eternal life.
On the occasion of the Church's new year, we present to you the image of the Theodore icon from the collection of the Primorsky State Picture Gallery. The Feodorovskaya icon is very close to the Vladimir icon of the Mother of God, because both icons belong to the iconographic type of Pleasing (Greek "Eleousa"). The Theodore icon differed from the Vladimir icon by the left leg of the Infant Christ bared to the knee. This icon was painted in the iconographic villages of the Vladimir Province in the second half of the 19th century, but traces its origin to an ancient miraculous image, whose appearance Church tradition associates with the works of the Evangelist Luke.
The exhibition will run until October 3.
