Moscow Museum of Modern Art in collaboration with Padre Gallery and with the support of the Embassy of Spain present the first solo exhibition of the Spanish artist in Russia
Edgar Planes "Freedom to dream and live.".
The project includes more than 100 selected works, which in different formats continue Plance's famous project "Animal Heroes". The characters are based on his "picture books" and cartoons, in which the artist exposes crimes against humanity and our planet. In addition, the viewer will be able to observe the process of creating the work: from a minor abstract note in a notebook to a completed work.
Edgar Plance has gained fame for his fictional heroes who find themselves embedded in the context of the modern city and battling with the problems of the real world. The author often experiments with space and format: from huge diptychs and an extensive collection of drawings and sketches for his forthcoming book, to portraits of his animal heroes stepping out into space. There is nothing accidental in Planes's painting: both the scratched wax in his depiction of the background, and the topoi used by the artist, and his ironic style, as well as the characters and animals in his canvases are all filled with meaning
