Ilya Repin

The Petit Palais (Petit Palais) Museum of Fine Arts of Paris invites you to visit the exhibition Ilya Repin (1844-1930) - one of the most famous Russian artists of the second half of the 19th century and the first third of the 20th century.

Within the framework of this project the Tretyakov Gallery provided the Parisian Museum 57 paintings of the artist, including masterpieces from the permanent exhibition. The exhibition will show such canvases of the master as "Not Waiting" (1884-1888), "Religious Procession in Kursk Province" (1881-1883), "Reception of Parish Elders by Alexander III in the courtyard of the Petrovsky Palace in Moscow" (1886) (1886).

"A key figure in the art world of his time, Repin was interested in various aspects of culture, from literature to music to science. He was very close to many Russian personalities, such as writer Leo Tolstoy, composer Modest Mussorgsky and collector Pavel Tretyakov. A witness to the many upheavals that shook Russia in his lifetime, Repin was particularly attentive to the profound historical and social changes that shaped his country, reflecting them in his works."
