State Hermitage Museum opens exhibition "Masterpieces of Master Ennion. Antique Glassmaking of the Eastern Mediterranean I-IV Centuries".

The exhibition is dedicated to the renowned ancient glassblower who created his masterpieces in the first half of the first century in the Roman province of Syria, which included the present-day territory of Syria, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon and the island of Cyprus. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see and appreciate the products of this remarkable master, whose works have remained unsurpassed in the elegance of form and complexity of ornamentation.

The exhibition comprises a total of 90 works from the first to the fourth century. 84 items come from the Hermitage collection, one of the largest in the world. It numbers over 3,000 exhibits and covers the period from the 6th century B.C. to the 4th century A.D. The presented monuments acquaint visitors with the history of ancient glasswork, various techniques used by ancient masters who created glass vessels which, despite their fragility, have survived through the millennia, and the subjects which attracted them.
