In 1831 Krylov leaves the Medical-surgical Academy and after 2 years presents to the teachers at the Academy of fine Arts his work – a portrait Vitovtova, which gets the title of "free artist". In the 1830-ies the artist works in the field of portraiture. But in 1836, "the appointed G. A. Krylov" was given the program in historical painting: he was supposed to represent "Moses, Looking from the mountains to the promised land." The picture was completed successfully and exhibited at the academic exhibition in 1836. And in 1839 the portrait of V. I. Demut-Malinovsky Guri asafovich received the title of academician. Recent works by the artist have been 2 images: "hosts" and "12 annual holidays."

On the date of death of the painter was also a lot of controversy. N. N. Wrangel calls 1850, but the report of the Academy of fine arts a message about the death of G. A. Krylova kept in 1841. (L. Zaitseva)
