He studied at the Kyiv drawing school N. And. Murashko, then N. GE, he worked as an assistant to V. Repin for teaching in organising preparatory art Studio sponsored by M. K. Tenisheva. In Tenishev St. Petersburg Studio, he studied in different years I. Bilibin, V. Falileev, Z. Serebryakova, E. chepcov, N. Shestopalov, S. Chekhonin, M. Yakovlev, E. Chestnyakov etc. In the following, 1896, on the recommendation of Ilya Repin of M. K. Tenisheva invited the class as a teacher and head of the Smolensk drawing school, where he worked for 4 years. Then traveled to Russia, collected ethnographic materials, worked as a restorer at the Tretyakov gallery.
