The son of a Professor of battle painting. Received from the Academy of fine Arts coin: 1839 - 2 gold and in 1841 1 gold for the "View from nature of the Harbor at Le Havre"; in 1842 he received the title of artist XIV class and was sent abroad at public expense. (Kondakov)
