Film Director, screenwriter, sculptor, Nar. art. Ukr.SSR (1969). He studied at the Kiev art. Uch-school (1907-09), peterb. Of arts (1909-10), in the Studio of sculptor N. Aronson in Paris (1910-11). From 1911 the artist.-art Moscow and Kiev, collaborated with Directors J. by Protazanov, by V. Them. From 1928 filmed K.-f. on their own scenarios for Odessa K.-St., 1934-41, Kyiv, K.-senior Director K-f. "Rain" (1929), "Perekop" (1930), "Assault of the night" (1931), Prometheus (1935), "Stozhary" (1939), "George Fryer" (1958), "Whore", 1961, etc. the author of the sculptural monuments to Princess Olga in Kiev (1911), Artem in Bakhmut (1923), to Taras Shevchenko in Poltava (1925), sculpture "Bogdan Khmelnitsky" (1945) and other works.

Born in the Ukraine (farm Ladanski, now the village Novopetrovtsy, Ramensky R-n, Dnipropetrovsk oblast), Director, screenwriter. People's artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1969). He graduated from the sculpture Department of the Kiev art school (1909). He studied at the sculpture Department of the St. Petersburg Academy of arts (1909-1910), in the Paris of sculpture Aronson (1910-1911). From 1912 the artist-designer of "Russian gold series" film production companies P. Timan and F. Reinhard. In 1918-1921 — the Director of the theater of Ukrainian drama in the Department of Department of education. 1924 — artistic Director of the sculpture Studio in Kharkov. In 1944 — senior researcher of the Academy of architecture in Kiev. Writer and artist's own films. Participated in the creation of monuments to "Victims of the revolution", as well as T. Shevchenko in Romny, the Pan in lokhvytsya, Artem in the Artemyevsky, Princess Olga in Kiev and Dr Ivan Kavaleridze belongs to that rare breed of people whom nature has generously endowed talent. UNESCO called it the Ukrainian Michelangelo. Sam Auguste Rodin once wrote on a photo of his sculpture: "It's hard. Visible talent, but you need to work." Kavaleridze the late 20-ies is taking the Director's own experiences in the movie. They went down in history as an avant-garde experiment in groping after specific bases of plastic film language as a unique attempt to present the film a kind of moving and dramatically organized... sculpture. Stories tapes Kavaleridze invariably chose the epic, monumental is already on the material: "Rain" ("Etchings to the history of gaidamakina", 1929), "Perekop" (1930), "Assault of the night" (1931), "Koliivschina" (1933), Prometheus (1935). His "Natalka-Poltavka" was the first film-Opera, which applauded America and Europe.
