Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts presents an exhibition "Women in Abstraction.".
The exhibition consists of works by women artists working in the style of modernism and abstractionism, from the late XIX century to the 80s of the XX century.
The artists are presented here both as actors in their own right and as co-authors of modernism and its legacy. Particular attention is paid to highlighting the specific contexts surrounding, favoring or, conversely, hindering the recognition of women artists. The exhibition reveals the process of "invisibility" inherent in the work of these artists, but also demonstrates their positions with all their complexities and paradoxes.
