History of Russian Design. Selected. 1917-2022

Ausstellung 7 Dezember 2021 − 25 November 2022
The State Tretyakov Gallery in the halls of the New Tretyakov Gallery holds an exhibition "History of Russian Design. Selected. 1917-2022".

Visitors will be able to appreciate the first large-scale exhibition exploring domestic design over the past century. Four sections of the exhibition (avant-garde, Art Deco and Stalinist Empire, post-war design, contemporary design) present objects illustrating innovative ideas of designers and mass-produced products. These are models, sketches, drawings, reconstructions of famous unrealized projects, and conceptual developments from museum and private collections. Many of the items included in the exhibition are shown for the first time.

"The exhibition is the result of a decade of research, the history of design has never been shown so extensively. As a rule, vivid experiments are shown outside the context of the realities of mass production. This exhibition defines the paradigm of Russian design, tells the real stories of how and why industrial products came out in this or that design, were launched into production or remained at the stage of projects. We have found projects and works that have never been exhibited in museums before, that were kept for years in families and in the archives of Soviet research institutes, we have collected photo and video chronicles, and created dozens of models of projects that were never brought to life. All these unique materials enter into a dialogue (stand in pairs) with objects that are stamped at factories in millions of copies," says Alexandra Sankova, curator of the exhibition and director of the Moscow Design Museum.
