Georges Pompidou National Centre for Arts and Culture holds an exhibition
"Shirley Jaffe. An American in Paris.".
Visitors are treated to an original exhibition of the author of a rich collection of abstract paintings, a large collection of which was donated to France and given to the National Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition includes paintings from different periods, as well as studio notes made by the artist and archival materials.
Shirley Jaffe, born in 1923 in New Jersey, left behind a rich legacy of abstract art. In 1949 the artist moved to Paris, where she created with passion until her last breath. In the 1970s she developed a vividly personal style, with dotted outlines, falling waves, beautifully ordered geometry, almost always artfully "broken".
