Biography and information

Born in 1909 in Munich in a family of Polish pianist Wanda Trzaska and artist from St. Petersburg of Edgar Bernhard.

After the revolution of 1917 his family moved to Yekaterinburg, where he studied painting at the L. V. Turzhansky. Was a friend of I. K. Slusarev.

In 1928, Bernhard O. was admitted as a member of the Association of artists of revolutionary Russia (AHRR).

Since 1932 - member of the artists Union.

In the 1930s, on projects O. of Bernhard converted to the Ural geological Museum, decorated Sverdlovsk Passage. Also participated in the creation of the Nizhny Tagil Museum of fine arts and the art Fund, collaborated with the Nizhny Tagil local history Museum, designed the performances in the drama and puppet theatres.

From 1941 to March 1953 he lived in Nizhny Tagil, where he worked with D. A. by Kavalershin.

He taught at the Ural school of industrial art. One of the founders of the tradition of art education in the second half of the twentieth century in the Urals. Brought many well-known Ural artists and artists-teachers of the last century, including V. Makarkin (Nizhny Tagil), I. bolotskikh (Chelyabinsk), A. Bad (Moscow), T. Kovalenko (Perm) and others.

The favorite genre of the artist - the landscape. But, unlike his teacher Tourjansky, heartfelt lyrics, O. Bernhard in his work is more narrative. He loves detail and fully disclose the nature of nature. His sketches do not Shine with the brightness of the picturesque quest or unusual compositional decisions, they are simple and modest as nature itself. But this is their main advantage - they touch the heart of the Russian people for their warmth and truthfulness.

Works are represented in the collections of the art museums of Ekaterinburg, Ufa, Nizhni Tagil, and also in museums and private collections in England, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Canada, Austria, Germany, USA.
