Eduard
Friedrichovich Kalnin (Kalniņš)

R. 12 (25).10.1904, Riga], a Soviet painter, people's artist of the Latvian SSR (1963), full member AH the USSR (1970).

He studied in Riga at the Latvian Academy of arts (1923-32) V. Purvita. He teaches at the Academy of arts of the Latvian SSR (1945; Professor in 1955).

Creativity K. played a major role in the development of the Latvian genre painting. A monumental composition, imbued with a steady rhythm of large color planes genre paintings and landscapes K. stern, is mainly devoted to the work of the fishermen and Majesties, the beauty of the sea.

Works: "the Raftsmen" (1935), "the New sail" (1945), "the Seventh Baltic regatta" (1952), "Latvian fishermen in the Atlantic" (1957) - all in the Art Museum of the Latvian SSR, Riga; "At a distance" (1967).

Studied at a commercial school V. Alausa(1912 – 17), during the first world war, in Omsk, at the same time visiting an art Studio, where he mastered the fundamentals of painting.

In 1922 – 31 G. studied under V. Purvitis in his workshop Landscape painting, graduating from the Latvian Academy of arts with the diploma work "After the rain".

From 1945 – 47, a teacher at LAH at the Department of painting, с1947 G. – associate Professor, from 1955 Professor. Supervised many diploma works of students LAH, since 1980 headed the creative workshop of painting USSR Academy of arts in Riga.

E. Kalnins is a wonderful teacher, this work is dedicated more than 40 years in the CRYSTALS.

The main theme of his paintings – the sea and related subjects – rybalovsky boat, ship, yacht, people on them. Vstrechayutsya still lifes. Important compositions of the artist – laborer of his time. His painting is very dynamic, but in the pictures can be very meditative, unique mood.

E. Kalnins is one of the founders of modern Latvian school of painting.
